Founded in 2005, this school has now been in operation for 20 years, growing from a fledgling operation with just 6 students, two teachers and a principal to the current vibrant learning community of about 500 students from nearly 50 countries and regions with teaching staff recruited from around the world. The school aspires to become a leader in international education in Zhejiang Province.

The school offers Early Years Foundation Stage of the national Curriculum of England, followed by the Cambridge Primary and Secondary Curriculum, leading to IGCSE examinations and A-Levels. The school offers a dynamic learning community encouraging self-management, curiosity, intellectual rigour, enjoyment and innovation. There is a friendly and collaborative teaching team with Chinese co-teachers in all Early Years and Primary classes.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Member of the Board accountable to the Chair of the Board
  • Implement the directives of the Board
  • Chair the Senior Leadership Team
  • Member ex officio of the School Advisory Committee (with voting rights)
  • In collaboration with the Chinese Principal, responsible for:
  • The timely appointment of all international staff and for their contracts
  • The strategic development of the school
  • Daily operations of the school
  • The quality of teaching throughout the school and the development of processes through which quality will improve and its scope be broadened
  • The curriculum, its development and diversification in line with Board policy
  • The authorisations and accreditations of external bodies: Cambridge, SAT, HSK, CIS and others as the school develops
  • School communication with NBIS families
  • The profile of the school in the public domain and for building further its reputation for excellence as the international school of choice for expatriates in Ningbo

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Educational Leadership/Management or relevant field
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in education, preferably including positions in international schools
  • Minimum 4 years' successful senior leadership, preferably in international schools and preferably including 'through schools'-Early Years to University Entrance (K-12)
  • Evidence of success in the management of change, school improvement, curriculum development, innovation or similar
  • Experience in a Cambridge School would be an advantage
  • Experience in China would be an advantage
  • Ability to win the confidence of the community to ensure that the school values-especially openness, trust, warmth, and collaboration-will be maintained
  • Decision-maker: clear and unambiguous leadership
  • Vision and aspiration: exude an excitement about leadership and taking the school to new levels of success
  • Knowledge and experience of curriculum and pedagogy: sufficient knowledge of the Cambridge Curriculum and approaches to teaching and learning to lead, manage and improve the whole school effectively: Early Years, Primary and Secondary
  • Organisational and administrative skills: ability to lead, manage and improve teams, systems, and processes clearly, collaboratively and decisively
  • Problem-solver: able to generate creative solutions
  • Gravitas/Presence: Able to represent the school effectively in the public domain, building further the excellent reputation of the school with government, international businesses, Cambridge and similar
  • Public Speaking: Articulate, engage, and be confident in presenting to various audiences large and small, including academics, parents, colleagues and children
  • Cross-Cultural Competency and Positive Understanding of China: Able to manage the multiple and varied demands of a widely diverse international community and at the same time project a positive and forward-looking picture of China
  • Flexible, calm, approachable and respectful
