The School

This International School in Kuala Lumpur is a leading British curriculum school, providing education for students aged 3 to 18 years. They follow the Cambridge International curriculum at primary and secondary, leading to IGCSEs and A-levels. The school has an experienced faculty and a delightful group of students of various different nationalities.
Although the school was founded in 2012, it has partnered with a UK-based Grammar School in 2024, joining a global family with schools in the UK, China and the Middle East. With school enrolment rapidly increasing, the school will be relocating to a new site (15mins from the old campus) in 2025 which will allow for a capacity of 1,300 students.

Role Overview

This is an outstanding opportunity to assume the position of Deputy Head: Teaching and Learning (Secondary School). This opportunity is pivotal to the successful growth and development of the school in a newly built campus in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Deputy Head for Teaching and Learning will play a key role in shaping the academic culture, ensuring that teaching and learning in the Secondary school are of the highest standard. Reporting directly to the Head of Secondary School, the Deputy Head will lead and inspire a team of educators, fostering innovation, collaboration, and professional growth. This role requires a strategic thinker, an experienced leader, and an expert in pedagogy who can contribute significantly to the school's development as a centre of educational excellence. The role is both a (light) teaching and school leadership role.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • A UK or Internationally recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS, or equivalent).
  • A bachelor's degree in education or a related field.
  • Proven track record of success in a leadership role, ideally as an Assistant or Deputy Head, Head of Department, or similar.

Desirable:

  • A master's degree in education, leadership, or a related field.
  • NPQ or equivalent leadership qualifications.

Experience:

Essential:

  • Experience working in a British Secondary School, British International Secondary Schools or with the British curriculum.
  • Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Extensive experience with the British curriculum, including curriculum design, assessment, and delivery.
  • Proven ability to lead whole-school initiatives that have improved teaching and learning outcomes.
  • Experience of conducting and responding to inspections (e.g., Ofsted, BSO, or COBIS).
  • Demonstrated success in staff development, coaching, and mentoring.

Desirable:

  • Experience working in a culturally diverse school community and fostering an inclusive environment.
  • Experience of all-through education with an understanding of the needs of students at each stage of their educational journey.
